We know...wading through
tables of buyer's guide information gets tiring. So we're breaking out a list
of bargains that we think are worth your attention. Our list is getting
shorter--or perhaps we're getting more opinionated!
We recommend checking out
our lists of .com
registrars and their package deals for a more
exhaustive resource...but if you're in a hurry...
How Low Can You Go
Award?
1&1 Internet
With registrations and renewals among the lowest in the cosmos (a good
two bucks less than GoDaddy's, and without GoDaddy’s mealy-mouthed
“ICANN fee” extras) 1&1 starts with the bar very low (which in
domains and in limbo contests is a good thing). Their beginner hosting
package won’t break the bank either: $3.99 a month for a ridiculous
amount of features--a blog, RSS, phone support, 600 email accounts (IMAP, POP
and Webmail, no less), 10GB of site space...I mean, let's get serious here!
All that for fifty bucks a year, including the domain? Are you making any
money for yourselves at all there, guys?

Go Daddy
GoDaddy is the standard bearer of the low-cost domain revolution. It
provides bare-bones domain offerings for a moving-target of a price
(depending on daily offers, it could cost anywhere from $6.99 to $9.99 for a
year's registration). But look at what it offers! Credits with your
registration for e-mail, blogs, photos, and lots of handy
"trade-up" features when you're ready to add on.

directNIC.com
Fifteen bucks gets you a domain with ad-supported hosting and e-mail
forwarding. Unless you want URL forwarding--which is another free option. Add
$15 more and you can take the ads off your Web site. Add a tenner for POP3
mail...and keep tweaking until you have exactly what you want.
